Our Montessori
Classroom
Little Star Montessori fully subscribes to Dr.
Montessori’s educational belief that the young child
has a unique aptitude for learning as an “absorbent
mind,” ready to take in challenging intellectual
tasks as they soak in knowledge and experiences like
a sponge, which prepares them for life.
Diversity in
our Classroom
Our classroom is organized to facilitate maximum
development of your child’s potential. The mixed
aged group of 2 to 6 years help children develop a
wider appreciation of the diversity of their
abilities and thereby encourage peer teaching.

Younger children get to observe the older
children work with a variety of activities
and set learning goals as they are exposed
to what comes next in the activity. Older
children have the opportunity to reinforce
their learning by sharing their knowledge
with the younger children. Our children also
take an active role in maintaining the
classroom by putting materials away in their
proper places, ready for the next child to
use. It is important that children feel
competent to be able to find materials
independently in the environment.

Our trained
Montessori teachers observe each child’s interest
and developing skills. They plan and implement an
individualized programme that allows each child to
actively engage in learning and develop cognitively,
socially, emotionally and physically.

The Montessori
Environment
A prepared Montessori environment is a key element
of the children's learning. All the furniture is
tailored made to child-size, materials are within
reach and arranged in a logical sequence on low
selves to foster children's independence,
self-discipline, self-motivation and self-esteem.
They also provide opportunities for developing
concentration, social skills and intellectual
growth. The prepared environment empowers children
to choose to work with the materials independently;
either individually or in small groups. When
children’s choices and their interests are
acknowledged, they can then begin to develop a sense
of belonging, joy, peace and satisfaction in the
classroom. |
Our Montessori classroom consists of a variety of
developmentally appropriate materials organized into
curriculum areas such as Exercises of Practical
Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Geography,
Cultural Studies, Art, Music and Movement.
When you visit our classroom you will observe some
“significant” behaviour. You will notice that our
children are concentrating, working peacefully and
independently at their tasks. You will see that they
treat each other with respect, showing
consideration, kindness and valuing each other’s
work and space; a place where they learn about
responsibility, to take care of the environment,
look after themselves as well as the welfare of
others and establish acceptable social
relationships.

Montessori Materials
Our children develop an understanding of the
concept of size, shape, colour, taste, touch
and sound while exploring the sensorial
materials. These materials enable them to
clarify and classify sensorial impressions
in their immediate surroundings.
Our children learn the concept of “how many”
and the operations of addition, subtraction
and multiplication by manipulating,
experimenting and investigating the concrete
mathematics materials.
Language Materials such as sandpaper letters
for identifying letter sounds, movable
alphabet for word building, phonetic
objects, reading cards and other literacy
development materials are tailored to the
learning abilities of the children.

Our children are
introduced to Geography and Science where they study
different people, places and cultures, land and
water forms, nature, animal and plant kingdoms.
Music awareness and creative art are integrated into
our Montessori curriculum. Our children explore how
sound is made by listening and responding to various
instruments. They also explore and improvise
creatively by working with art and craft materials,
blocks, puzzles, music and movement.
The outdoor area is also critical for our children’s
learning, therefore our environment is constructed
to promote an indoor and outdoor flow. Our outdoor
environment is also equipped with a wide range of
challenging play equipment.
We also have two beautiful guinea pigs named
“Chocolate” and “Milo” for our children to care for
and enjoy.
